Occupational Medicine in a Hospital Setting

  1. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE KEY SYSTEM?
    • We chose KEY because of many factors
    • It is the most functional assessment
    • Glenda's reputation as the founder of functional capacity assessments and as an innovator in industrial medicine. This gave us instant credibility in the industrial medicine market
    • The assessment has withstood litigation to the level of state and provincial supreme courts
    • It is ADA and EEOC compliant
    • Portability of the system
    • A 98% intratester reliability
    • The software and assessment flow are extremely efficient and allow quick turnaround time
  2. WHAT TYPE OF ASSESSMENTS ARE YOU PROVIDING?
    • The full spectrum. The majority though, are Whole and Upper Body assessments.
  3. HAS YOUR PRACTICE EXPANDED WITH THE KEY SYSTEM?
    • Absolutely! We have experienced about 20% growth in Functional Capacity Assessments for each of the past three years. It has also helped us objectively quantify the outcomes of our Work Conditioning, Work Hardening, and Chronic Pain programs leading to increased referrals in these areas as well.
  4. IS INDUSTRIAL MEDICINE GROWING IN YOUR AREA? IN WHAT WAY?
    • Yes. In Boise, we are a rapidly growing community, with many businesses relocating to our area. We have been able to utilize the full spectrum of assessments to first partner with other health care providers (Doctors and Industry) to increase our market share in the areas of preventive care. This in turn, has led to increase utilization of our acute injury management systems (P.T. and O.T.). The market for Work Hardening and Chronic Pain has globally been shrinking. However, we have been able to expand our practice in these areas by 1) Having a greater market share of the acute patients and properly triaging them into the work hardening programs to limit chronicity and 2) with KEY Assessments to better quantify functional outcomes, we have established ourselves as the market leader in the region and we now have referrals from throughout the Northwest, and as far away as Alaska.
  5. WAS IT EASY OR DIFFICULT TO ADD FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENTS TO YOUR PRACTICE?
    • The addition of KEY Functional Capacity Assessmenst predates my employment. However, with onsite training and with KEY's technical support line, I believe the transition was smooth and flawless.
  6. WHAT IS YOUR WORK SETTING?
    • St. Luke's • Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Services is the outpatient rehabilitation division of the two parent hospitals. We have two large outpatient sites with 11 smaller satellite clinics. Our occupational medicine services are the corenerstone of our practice and are spread throughout all of the clinics. However, our specialty programs are primarily located in downtown Boise. We employ 90 P.T.'s, O.T.'s and SLP's.
  7. TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND.
    • I graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1995. Since that time I have practiced in Boise, ID with St. Luke's . Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Services. My specialty is in occupational medicine and I have specialties in Work Hardening, Chronic Pain, and Injury prevention strategies. In addition, I have specialty certifications in ergonomics and functional capacity assessment specialist, Senior Assessment Specialist, and Trainer for KEY Method. Recently I have joined the staff for KEY method as an Assessment Trainer and perform the technical support world wide for KEY.
  8. IN GENERAL, TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS BEFORE AND AFTER ADDING KEY FUNCTIONAL ASSESSMENTS.
    • KEY has helped us take programs that were on the verge of greatness to the next level. In addition, it has helped us gain new market and diversify our occupational medicine services. KEY has helped us become the organization of choice for industrial medicine in our region.
